Getting out of the comfort zone and making a mess of it

I've lived where I am now for about 15 years. That's the longest I've lived in one house but now it's time to go. Not exactly the way I wanted it to happen but change sometimes needs to give us a little shove to get us moving because it can be hard to get out of a comfort zone. Although this comfort zone of mine progressively became more uncomfortable until...Well, I'm moving on. BUT FIRST! Before leaving that zone, make a mess of it!
Here's to change!

Where have I been? Right over there! www.eyefulimages.com

I've been here. Well, not on the blog but I've been right next door updating the Eyeful Images website fairly often however. I will try to come around and post more and I'll post something Eyeful right now to make up for my lack of activity lately.

Here's a photo from my dad's archives. He was also a full-time photographer when he about was my age and still pursues it as a hobby. This is he and I. I'm the cute one. And no that's not vodka. At least I don't think it was.??

Product Catalog Design & Photography

I recently completed an exciting project I wanted to share here. The 2011 Manning Custom Knives Catalog. I've worked with Ed Manning and have photographed his wonderful work several times now but this was a little different. I was able to create something that was more of a piece of art than just product shots. I've always been inspired by Mr. Mannings knives (and love the one I own), and I wanted to create a catalog and product photos that not only translated the detail and craftsmanship of his work but were pieces of art. I've been working on my "Desert Dark" night photography project for some time and felt the AZ desert landscape at night worked very well with the knives. Combining my fine art photography with the custom knives worked rather well. Another new experience for me was created the entire catalog. To carry the details of the knives throughout the catalog I created the frames, bullets, and nameplates using pieces of his knives. taking sections of the custom file work on the blades, the detailed mosaic pins and sections of the handles colorful woods. It was great fun and it satisfied my desire to create materials for Ed that were special and extremely eye catching and my desire to create an artistic showpiece that would lead to other design projects for Eyeful Images. Success!
Last note on the project is a fine art print will soon be available from both Manning Custom Knives and Eyeful Images Photographic Arts. I hope you enjoy and please check out Manning Custom Knives for some beautifully crafted knives at www.manningcustomknives.com

Halloween Portraits

Here's a few of my favorites from Hemina's Halloween Bash. I always love to set up "photo booths" at events. It's exceptionally fun when it a costume party! I even wore one and it's been YEARS! (the scary guy in the middle is me).

In case anyone is wondering about the setup. It's a two light setup. A ring flash with a Moonunit 32" modifier (like a round soft box)for the main light and a gridded hair light. One easy way to take studio quality portraits anywhere. I love it!

I've been collecting clouds. I always love a good "skyscape" and have been photographing the sky for over four years. I've got quite a collection now. So I'e put together a little video of some of my favorite dramatic sky photos and put it to some of my own melancholy music. I hope you enjoy it.

Muddy Memories. Mighty Mud Mania 2010.

I recently had a fun job for Henkel of America, Inc. - The task was to have a "photo booth" where attendees of Mighty Mud Mania could have their photo taken and take home a 5x7 print as a memento. A thoughtful gift from Henkel who was the main sponsor of the event. Eyeful Images photographed and printed about 260 photos of Mud Mania attendees!

Here's a few of my favorites from the day!

You can see the rest of the photos from Mighty Mud Mania on Henkel's Flickr page

Busy weekend

My weekend started off with photographing Lesa in the studio and then Insane Clown Posse at te Marquee Theatre. I'll be photographing Adult swim at the San Carlos Hotel later today, Fall of Empyrean at UBs in Mesa tonight, then off to capture (and enjoy) Manny's Birthday party. My trigger finger is getting a workout this weekend.

Here's "Light on her feet" with Lesa and a shot from the I.C.P. show where there was no short supply of Faygo. What a blast.

Be sure to check out the rest of the ICP show (and after show) photos at the Phoenix New Times

Architectural/Venue Photography

Here's some recent images for Phase 54 venue. A sampling of the architectural/venue photography.

It's a beautiful space with capacity for over 2200. For local and national touring acts needing this size venue, this is going to be one of the best in AZ.

Here's a few images from the first musical performance at the venue by the Boogie Knights & Spazmatics.
